The firm stated, “We’re relaunching @TwitterBlue on Monday — subscribe on the web for $8/month or on (Apple’s) iOS for $11/month to obtain access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark.”
Previously free but reserved for organizations and public personalities to prevent impersonation and false information, the blue checkmark on an account now signifies that it has been verified by Twitter.
