A car purportedly traveling from the home of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur to Lahore was discovered to be carrying a large number of guns, according to police authorities. The vehicle, coming from Dera Ismail (DI) Khan, attempted to pass through a security check at the Bhakkar police’s Dajal check station, but the drivers refused to stop and destroyed the fence. The police eventually stopped the car and found ammunition inside it.
The search turned up 22 firearms, 47 magazines, and 187 bullets, according to the police. Two individuals were subsequently detained, and a complaint was filed against them. In the first information report (FIR), the accused stated that the PTI leader had hired a private security firm to provide security for him and that they were the owners of the firearms. They said that because the agreement between the two sides was about to end, the guns were being returned to Lahore from Gandapur’s home.
Bhakkar DPO Muhammad Naveed said that the accused also gave the police an authorization document from the security business, which is now being validated by the police. However, police officers revealed that on March 20, Gandapur and his men reportedly stormed the same checkpoint. The PTI leader and his companions fired shots at the checkpoint when the car was halted, then they departed amid a tense altercation.
According to a Bhakkar police official, Gandapur’s car was pulled over at the Dajal checkpoint for speeding. All cars passing through the checkpoint are inspected as it is located near the border between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, Gandapur and his men fled after making a disturbance and starting to fire. Four of Gandapur’s guards were subsequently detained, and their car was confiscated, after a case was filed under 13 sections of the Pakistan Criminal Code (PPC), including terrorism.
The incident has raised concerns about the security situation in the country, particularly with the upcoming elections. Many people are worried that there may be violent clashes during the election campaign, and the authorities must take measures to prevent such incidents from happening. The use of guns and violence must be discouraged, and strict action should be taken against those who violate the law.
