Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has criticized President Arif Alvi for his “anti-government and one-sided” views expressed in a letter he wrote on March 24. In the letter, President Alvi had requested the prime minister to ensure the implementation of the Supreme Court’s orders concerning the provincial elections. In his response to the president’s letter, PM Sharif said that the contents of the letter appeared to reflect “biased and anti-government views” and expressed disappointment at the “blatantly partisan nature” of the letter. He also accused the president of violating his constitutional oath several times, citing the dissolution of the National Assembly on “illegal” directives of then-Prime Minister Imran Khan and the president’s failure to administer his oath after his election as PM. PM Sharif also criticized President Alvi for failing to comment on deposed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s failure to appear in courts. The prime minister concluded his letter by assuring the president that his government is committed to preserving and protecting the Constitution and ensuring that fundamental rights guaranteed to the citizens of Pakistan are not violated.
