The party has started making arrangements to welcome former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, according to interior minister Rana Sanaullah on Friday.

The minister, who also serves as the PML-provincial N’s leader, and Punjab Information Secretary Azuma Bokhari made the announcement during a news conference in Lahore.

Since being permitted to leave the country for medical treatment in November 2019, Nawaz has been residing in London.

However, earlier this week, Nawaz gave Sanaullah instructions to start doing research for shortlisting qualified candidates for elections in an apparent attempt to dispel the notion that the PML-N is “running away” from elections in Punjab and that it appears to have run out of legal alternatives to prevent the dissolution of the provincial legislature.

When speaking to the press, Sanaullah urged PTI leader Imran Khan to dissolve the provincial legislature, adding, “We have resolved to fight and prepare for the elections.”

He said that the “PML-N has taken decisions” and will convene later today to put them into effect.

Sanaullah added that the return of the PML-N leader will determine the outcome of the poll in Punjab and predicted that the PTI would lose. “Since we value democracy, we support allowing assemblies to serve out their terms. However, despite PTI’s innocuous threats, we are not scared.

He said that a committee had been created to meet with party officials and propose two candidates for each seat within two weeks after the party divided the nine divisions of Punjab into three.
