Attackers targeted the Afghan embassy’s charge d’affaires (CdA), Ubaidur Rehman Nizamani, on Friday. While Nizamani remained unharmed, his security suffered a serious injury.

The attack was confirmed to have been directed at the Pakistani envoy when the Khorasan branch of the Islamic State (IS-K) claimed responsibility for it on Sunday.

The Pakistani ambassador and his guards were attacked with “medium weapons and snipers” while they were in the embassy’s courtyard, according to the statement, which was posted on social media in Arabic.

FO spokesman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch responded to the charges by stating that Pakistan had “heard reports that IS-KP had admitted responsibility for the terrorist incident.”

We are independently and in consultation with the Afghan authorities verifying the accuracy of these reports, she said.

“Despite this, the terrorist attack serves as another warning of the danger terrorism poses to the peace and stability of Afghanistan and the region. To stop this threat, we must act decisively and with all of our combined strength, she said.

She also said that Pakistan’s resolve to fight terrorism is unwavering.

Nizamani was the attack’s intended target, according to a statement made public by the FO on Friday. Nizamani was unharmed.

Although the embassy will continue to run regularly and there were no preparations to remove ambassadors from Kabul, the FO had “strongly denounced” the incident. In order to formally denounce the incident, the Afghan chargĂ© d’affaires were also called to appear before the foreign ministry.

An official said that Nizamani was fired at by militants when he was walking on the lawn of the Pakistani mission in Kabul’s Kart-i-Parwan district.

Assailants fired at a security guard, Sepoy Israr Mohammad, who was “critically injured” while attempting to save Nizamani, the FO reported.

Mohammad, who had been struck by two gunshots, was taken to a hospital and then transported by helicopter to Peshawar.
