Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf will lead the House’s efforts to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution, which was passed unanimously fifty years ago. The month-long celebrations are set to commence on Monday, April 10th. The Parliamentary Advisory Committee, chaired by Senator Raza Rabbani and comprising members from both Houses of Parliament, will outline the activities for the celebration.

The Speaker will inaugurate the festivities by laying the foundation stone of the Constitution Monument opposite Parliamentary Lodges, D-Chowk, Islamabad. The monument will be a permanent reminder of the importance of the Constitution in Pakistan’s history. This will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial of the Unsung Heroes of Democracy in the Parliament House, honoring those who fought for democracy in Pakistan.

The Speaker will also inaugurate an exhibition showcasing rare pictures of the Constitution’s framers and inspect a commemorative stamp before heading to the second floor of the Parliament to review the original Constitution and other manuscripts. The celebration will culminate in the National Assembly Session, attended by parliamentarians and people from all walks of life.

The Convention will be chaired by the Speaker, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman Advisory Committee Senator Raza Rabbani, and other attendees will pay tribute to the framers of the Constitution. The session will also pass several resolutions related to the Constitution’s recognition as a binding document, its incorporation into the national curriculum, homage to the Constitution’s framers, and declaring the State Bank building (old National Assembly Hall) as a national monument.

The month-long activities include speech contests in educational institutions, quiz competitions, exhibitions, special programs by electronic media, newspaper supplements, and an international constitution convention on May 10th.

The celebrations aim to promote awareness of the Constitution’s significance in Pakistan’s history and encourage citizens to celebrate the country’s successes and national festivals in a befitting manner, rising above their differences. The comprehensive program will feature events that highlight the Constitution’s role in ensuring democracy, rule of law, and human rights, encouraging citizens to respect and uphold the Constitution’s values.
